Chicago NB style has very specific rules for what to do in this situation. If you cite the same source multiple times in a row, simply write “Ibid.” in each note after the first—this means “this source is the same as the source in the previous note”:

Hence another way to put it is that ibid means ‘in the same place’ – meaning the same publication. Using this just means you don’t have to write the author name and date out again. Ibid., Op Cit., Et Al. (Latin Terms in Referencing) If you want to sound smart and/or pretentious, dropping the odd Latin phrase into conversation is a good way to go. Most of the time, though, Latin isn’t how we communicate these days.

Rule: If material from the same source is quoted in the next page or two, and there are no intervening quotations from other sources, "Ibid." may be used in place of the standard reference. The page number should be included if the reference is from a different page than the previous reference.

When ibid. is used in an in-text citation it is not capitalized. For example: "Far from offering absolutes about reality, James's ambiguity points to the modern age, with its shifting notions of 'truth'" (ibid., 2). Ibid.

I Need to cite references in footnote according to Chicago reference style where "ibid". and "op. cite." will be generated automatically in latex. A sample screen-shot generated manually in MS word is attached here. Please help.

For subsequent citations, use a shortened version of the footnote, which includes: Author's last name (for edited works, use the editor's last name, but omit the "ed." after the name) The abbreviation ibid. (from ibidem, "in the same place") usually refers to a single work cited in the note immediately preceding. In a departure from previous editions, Chicago discourages the use of ibid.
